Over 11 lakh SMEs enrolled on Udyam Portal since its launch in July

More than 11 lakh micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) have registered on the Udyog portal since its launch in July, as per MSME Ministry.

The Udyam portal for registration of MSME was launched by the government earlier this year in July. The portal has been integrated with Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Goods and Service Tax (GST) networks as also with the government e-marketplace (GeM), making the process of MSME registration a paperless exercise.

The Ministry has instructed all of its Field establishments, such as MSME-Development Institutes, MSME Technology Centers, The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Ltd, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Coir Board, to extend full support to Udyam Registration entrepreneurs. Similarly, all district magistrates and district industry centres have been asked to expedite the registration of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Ministry stated MSMEs’ registration claims are managed by the ‘CHAMPIONS Forum’ through its network of central control rooms and 68 state control rooms across the country.

According to the Ministry, 3.72 lakh companies have been listed under the manufacturing category, while 6.31 lakh companies registered under the service sector category in the Udyam site.

The share of micro-enterprises is 93.17%, while small and medium-sized enterprises are 5.62% and 1.21% respectively. The Ministry also said that five leading States for Udyam registrations are Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

It also reported that 1.73 lakh businesses were owned and operated by females and 11,188 enterprises by Divyangjan entrepreneurs. The top five industry registration industries include agricultural, textile, clothing, engineered metal products and machinery & equipment.

Enterprises who are not yet registered should register themselves to make use of the advantages of the Ministry of MSME and other government agencies. However, registration is free of charge and can only be done on the government site.
